Even with COVID restrictions, ARC had a busy and fun year! The group sponsored five projects, including the Young Emerging Artists’ (YEA) summer program and outdoor “pop-up” art events.
In January, the Second Annual Snow Sculpting Contest was hosted in conjunction with the Town of Rico’s Winter Carnival. After a slide show at the Enterprise Bar & Grill, audience picks were awarded with gift certificates to Rico’s local businesses.

Instead of a July 4th weekend art show with indoor exhibits, ARC set up outdoor canopies and tables to display and sell our creations while “social distancing”.
In September, our planned Studio Tour had to be cancelled but several ARC artists participated in an impromptu “pop-up art show” held outdoors over the Labor Day Weekend.

That same month, ARC re-designed its artwork in the Rico Town Hall and negotiated an agreement with the Town for ongoing art displays. Eight of our Artists have work available for your viewing.
The YEA Summer Program organized projects which were completed at home, or required outdoors’ activity, by our young emerging artists.
In July, twelve YEA kids and five ARC artists made a “self-portrait” using supplies provided by the Club. In addition to posting photos of the portraits on FaceBook and this website, the schoolhouse windows were decorated with our kids’ art. After mid-July, the portraits were displayed in the Rico Town Hall.

YEA’s Doggy Scavenger Hunt challenged four teams to find the ceramic dog heads that were framed and mounted by ARC in various locations around Rico. Fourteen dogs (plus four missing head sites) were discovered.
Working with the AaHaa School in Telluride, YEA kids were offered three “kit” projects. In August, 24 kids completed beading, ukulele building, and acrylic painting kits. In October, six kids selected bookbinding and clay projects. In December, seven kids completed holiday stockings and decorations.

ARC thanks The Rico Center and The Telluride Foundation for providing the grant monies and gifts which funded these projects for the Town of Rico.
