In July and August the townspeople of Rico submitted over 50 photos of their favorite pooches to aRc. The Young Emerging Artists (YEA!!) participated by entering their own puppy photos and editing those submitted for review. After participating in workshops for editing photos and horse photography, YEA!! kids prepared their favorite pictures for the DOG AND PONY SHOW held on August 31 through September 3. On the last day of the Labor Day Weekend Event aRc announced the winners for the PEOPLES’ CHOICE AWARDS; the photo favs were awarded authentic Show Ribbons.
For the “Best in Show — Dog” category, the winners were: MAPLE – first place; SGT PEPPER- second place; and SMOKEY – third place.
For the “Best in Show — Horse” category, the winners were: MAX – first place; DOZER – second place; and DOZER – third place.
For the “Best Pose” category, the winners were: BLUE the ENFORCER – first place; SPANKY- second place; and DARWIN – third place.
For the “Cutest” category, the winners were: BRANDY, LUCY, and PARTY DOGS – first place; MUNGO and ELLIOTT- second place; and KUBRIC – third place.
In addition to the PEOPLES’ CHOICE AWARDS, a second contest was held at the DOG AND PONY SHOW. Attendees were challenged to name eight of the Rico dogs with wall photos. Over 20 visitors made donations and submitted their ballots. We actually had two winning ballots … one was submitted by L Reafsnyder and one was submitted by Harper Lapp. Our 8-year-old YEA!! winner took home a Rodeo Metal Print for her efforts! Congratulations, Harper, you’ve proven that you are RICO’S #1 DOG BUDDY!
The PEOPLES’ CHOICE WINNERS will be commemorated in a 2019 wall calendar, for sale at aRc’s next show. 8”x10″ wood panels and prints shown in the DOG AND PONY SHOW will also be available for sale at that event; prices range from $4 to $12.
